getting my feet wet.

So I’ve been thinking of blogging for a while, and today that thinking turned into doing. I’m not gonna lie, I sort of used to hate on bloggers. Not bloggers who blog for a job, or a profession, or to review something, but specifically bloggers like the one I have just become as of the second my index finger clicked 'publish'. I shouldn't hate on bloggers when I love reading other “regular” people’s blogs, (only if they're awesome). I’m known to be a bit of a creeper after a Google search where I might discover a blog, only to become a devout secret follower, getting little bits of panic when my mouse goes haywire and I accidentally click on “comment.” What if they ever figure out I’m reading? How do those IP addresses work? When I’m signed into Google and reading their blog does this show them the username who’s been reading the blog? Mental note Claire, don’t read blogs when signed into Google.
I’ve decided to blog not because I’m a celebrity, a professional athlete, or getting paid to do it. I’m clearly none of those, (but would love to be all of those) things. If you’re curious, I’m blogging for the following reasons:
1. Really outlandish things happen to me, and maybe my musings can provide some entertainment (i said maybe). Example: I severely dislocated my shoulder 3 years ago after tripping over a suitcase because I was too busy q-tipping my ear and therefore not looking at the floor. I redislocated it a few months ago whilst throwing my purse into the backseat of my car, shouted pathetically for a man to help, but alas, his head phones were on and he had his back to me. On a flight from Cincinnati to Dulles last summer an adult woman with sweaty bangs projectile vomited across the isle and over the seat onto the right side of my head and into my lap. Please visualize. Then weep like I did. I might write a blog entry sharing some of these little experiences which add up to a Seinfeld-esque life. Sometime I hear people say that their life is “like a Seinfeld episode.” Folks, it isn’t. Mine is. Stop abusing the term. Yes, I said it. Wait, back to why i'm blogging...
2. I suck at math. Literally. Watch me purposefully become distracted during the bill calculations after a group dinner, (where no, i shouldn't pay 75-something bucks when i had a sandwich and you had a three-course meal and expensive beer). Ask my dad how many times I cried at the dining room table when he was trying to help me with Algebra; Crying that turned into sobbing once Trigonometry rolled around. What does math have to do with anything? Because while I’m bad at math I’m not too bad of a storyteller, and the crucial part, because I love writing, (not necessarily with proper grammar or reason). So, I thought I’d combine these two interests and see who wants to read. Plus, maybe Bradley Cooper or Zach Braff will stumble upon it, think I’m great, and buy us a loft in NYC with a yellow kitchen just steps from the Central Park. Wait, that’s the stuff I’m only supposed to think, not type outloud; right?
3. My last and most definitely cheesiest reason - because everyone has a story. Seriously – we’ve all been through things in life that shape us. Good things, not-so-good things, experiences that could last a minute or maybe years. I like to share my stories. Yepp, i do. I have also psychoanalyzed the blogging thing, as I do everything, and think its part of the human condition to want to feel listened to; which in today’s world of technology, might even include being “followed” on a blog. In total honesty, I’d be flattered if a complete stranger was intrigued by my blogging.
I’ll end my first official entry by saying I’m not going to cross the line with too much personal stuff. Sure, I’ll include bits and pieces that create the layers to the onion that is The CW, but you won’t hear “whoa-that-was-like-totally-too-much-information” type entries from this girl. Of course I’ll include enough to make you a regular around here.... after all, that's what i'm looking for.
My very first sign off,
Claire
