"This Nation will remain the land of the free, only so long as it is the home of the brave." - Elmer Davis

Today i ran to the public garden early this morning in the quiet of my footsteps. The two planes that hit the twin towers took off from Boston's Logan airport - and over 200 massachusetts lives were lost amidst the 3,000+ on September 11. i went to a memorial unveiled today in their honor, purposefully early when it wasn't yet filled with Bostonians who have been here much longer than me, and most importantly the families who hopefully had plenty of room, time and peace to take it in. i stood there in my running clothes, the city still waking up on a sunday morning, and i watched a man kiss his fingers, finding his person, and pressing them to the stone wall of this beautiful memorial. tears rolled down my cheeks and i stood there in the peace of Boston's Public Garden with 3,000 flags in the background, placed before sunrise that morning  i ran home, taking quiet time alone to think about this dark day, my footsteps for those lost, for those families with aching hearts, but also running
with hope and adoration for my country.

We are blessed to be Americans. To enjoy all this country has to offer, and to be protected by the brave men and women - be it a military serviceman, firefighter, or one of the many hero's that on that day 10 years ago, didn't think twice about sacrificing themselves for a stranger's soul. This country's protection and pride exists prior to, and beyond days like September 11th. it is permanent and constant, and is something that can never be taken.
